Longan Picking in Mae Teng — Harvest Season at a Lisu Village

To a Lisu village in Mae Teng
We guided Ms. Yokota and Ms. Yamauchi, students at the On Thai Massage School, to a Lisu hill tribe village in Mae Teng.
The goal: a longan (lamyai) orchard right in the middle of harvest season.
Changing into traditional dress
When we arrived, the villagers had Lisu traditional costumes ready and waiting.
Ms. Yokota and Ms. Yamauchi changed and headed into the orchard. The bright colours look wonderful against the green.
Picking and eating on the spot
The longan trees were heavy with clusters of fruit.
Pick one, eat it. Pick another, eat it. Freshly picked longan has a juiciness completely different from what you buy at the market.
Season runs to mid-August
Longan picking is available until around mid-August.
The season is short, so if you are visiting Chiang Mai at this time of year, do try it. It is less "fruit picking attraction" and more visiting a village and tasting what the land is producing right now.
