Kamthieng Plant Market | Chiang Mai's Permanent Market for Saplings and Greenery

Chiang Mai has a permanent plant market called Kamthieng, lined with saplings and houseplants — a local market that plant lovers can't get enough of.
From Saplings to Houseplants
The market is packed with greenery, from potted houseplants to young saplings ready to grow. Simply strolling through and taking it all in is a pleasure in itself.
A Spot Even Visiting Botanists Love
Recently we guided the head of a gotu kola (centella) farm from Hiroshima, Japan to this Kamthieng Plant Market, where he bought more than 50 saplings.
Taking plants out of the country requires proper procedures: two days before flying home he carefully washed all the soil off the roots, and the day before departure he had them inspected at the plant and animal quarantine office next to immigration before packing them into his suitcase to bring back to Japan. If you're thinking of taking plants home, don't forget these quarantine steps.
