Rotee Padae | A Michelin Bib Gourmand Roti Stall Near Tha Pae Gate

Walk from Tha Pae Gate toward the Ping River and you'll find Rotee Padae, a roti specialty stall standing in front of Wat Mahawan. Remarkably, this little stall was awarded the 2021 Michelin Bib Gourmand.

What is Roti?

Roti is a sweet that resembles a thin pancake. Fillings include egg, banana, mango, pineapple and chocolate, giving you plenty of variations to enjoy in this humble, everyday dessert.

Roti is loved across Southeast Asia, and the word originally means "bread" in Malay. In Chiang Mai you can find it at street stalls around the markets and in shopping-mall food courts, but this is the stall to visit.

Awarded the 2021 Michelin Bib Gourmand

This small stall was selected for the 2021 Michelin Bib Gourmand.

The Bib Gourmand is a mark given to restaurants that fall outside the traditional star ratings (three, two and one star) but offer good food at a reasonable price. The "Gourmand" in Bib Gourmand is French for a hearty eater or food lover, while "Bib" comes from the nickname of Michelin's mascot, Bibendum. Bib Gourmand venues are marked with Bibendum's face.
